Veterans' Day

Students at DES performed their traditional Veterans' Day assembly not only for the invited local veterans but also live for members of the armed forces stationed in Baghdad. Using Skype, free videochat software, students were able to sing, recite poetry, and read original work to audiences both here and on the other side of the world! We even had a chance to ask the servicemen and women some questions about their work in Iraq.

2009 Ladybug Award Nominees

Again this year, kindergarten, first, and second graders are enjoying listening to each of the picture books nominated for the 2009 NH Ladybug Award. Third graders are reading the books individually or with a friend and are in the process of creating a podcast for the younger children to listen to before voting begins in November. Only kinders through thirds may vote! For a complete list of Ladybug nominees, click right here!

Be Respectful, Responsible, & Safe

When I use technology, I will remember to:
• Be gentle and careful with all equipment.
• Have clean hands – sanitize!
• Sit correctly.
• Keep food, drinks, or magnets away from computers.
• Use only polite language in email, chat, and cyberspace.
• Not touch or copy other another person’s files or work.
• Stay away from online ads.
• Only go to appropriate, approved websites.
• Tell an adult if I see something inappropriate.
• Follow the directions I am given.
• Type carefully, especially when I’m online.
• Keep personal information private and help my friends to do the same.
• Remember that people that I meet online are still strangers and I should not meet them face to-face.

Back to School

We have begun another year of ICT (Information & Communication Technology) at Danbury Elementary School! We are excited this year to have a central location for our library collection so that children may visit, browse, and check out books as needed. No more waiting until ICT class!

ICT is a blend of 21st century library skills and basic computer technology skills. While at DES, each child builds a digital portfolio of technology projects completed in ICT class or in the classroom. Check back often - many of these projects will be featured on this blog as well as other goings-on in our ICT classes across the grades.
